The costumes collection is very rich, with pieces from all over the world. Stibbert's interest in the history of costume is evident, with pieces spanning from the sixteenth to nineteenth centuries, from Europe to India, China and Japan.
One of the most important pieces of the collection is the “pwtit costume”, made for the coronation of Napoleon as king of Italy in 1805. It consists of waistcoat, trousers, socks and a mantle. The latter is in green velvet with Napoleonic emblems in gold embroidery.
